How is this first paragraph about the lord of the flies?
In any sensible crisis there is an action and reaction. Golding wrote Lord of the Flies with a scenario of boys who represent society as a whole with how evil they can be and their reactions. The story is in the time period of WW2 and the reader see that the boy’s plane crashed on a deserted island. All the boys including the main characters Ralph, Jack and piggy get together and decide to explore the island for any signs of civilization. “We’re on an island. We’ve been on the mountain top and seen water all around. We saw no houses, no smoke, no footprints, no boats, no people; we’re on an uninhabited island with no other people on it.”(32).This can be an extremely important quote because it shows the abandonment of the boys on the island and the fear that struck them knowing that they are now alone and get to or have to make their own decisions. This effected the boys knowing that they had no one there telling them no by the power of ultimate freedom. The freedom made them react and choose decisions that they might have not made if they were around their parents like throwing rocks at other children or pushing a boulder on top of other or even hunting down and try to or accomplish killing another human as a pig such as Ralph and Simon. Golding also makes other statements about society and their reactions. “This is our island. It’s a good island. Until the grown-ups come to fetch us we’ll have fun.” (35).
