Why do some moms think their baby can't eat solids b/c they don't have teeth?

I never thought they couldnt i was just afraid to do so, my oldest would get chocked on everything, but i think i started too early at 6 1/2 months, he had teeth at 5 months so i really cant say too much but he did well after 7 months and he didnt have back teeth
